JRNL 115 - Advanced Social Media

Semester Hours: 3
Periodically
This course will explore advanced theories and concepts in social media and apply these to journalism practice. Social media has significantly altered the process and practice of journalism in the Web 2.0 world. Information is now available to everyone, everywhere, all the time, and this has transformed news gathering and reporting. Journalism itself has moved from a one-to-many model to a many-to-many model, which means many more people are involved in the production of news. Ethics, accuracy, sourcing and verification are important issues in social media and this course will explore these topics in depth during the semester.

Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes:
JRNL 010  and 011 . May not be taken on a Pass/D+/D/Fail basis.
