The BA major in Russian and Post-Soviet Studies provides students with a solid foundation of Russian language skills, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening comprehension. In addition, through carefully selected foundational and elective courses, students gain an understanding of Russia’s literary and cultural traditions and history. Students are encouraged to augment their study of Russian at Hofstra with study abroad.

Selected from the following: Elective Courses - Semester Hours: 9
Students in the Russian and Post-Soviet Studies major complete their major by taking 9 semester hours of electives, which may include the option of more language courses, which may be taken on campus or through study abroad, literature in translation of the same culture, internships, and up to 6 semester hours taken in CLLL or other departments, under advisement.
Capstone Course - Semester Hours: 3
Students in the major may complete a capstone project, in which they may write a senior or honors thesis on a literary or non-literary topic, create an annotated translation or a multimedia project, or some other experience approved by the program director. Students may satisfy the capstone requirement with other coursework, as deemed appropriate, in consultation with the program director.
