Podcasting and Audio Storytelling, BA Major in

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: The Lawrence Herbert School of Communication

Audio stories are dynamically curated sonic snapshots of everyday life. They range from compelling conversations about news, sports, politics, and the arts to elaborate audio features about a shared event or a cultural experience. They can also be influential non-fiction narrative works, business leader profiles, or music documentaries.

Each audio story is expertly designed by audio professionals with deep technical production capacities. These creators work extremely hard to record, produce, write, edit, and sound design for what is estimated to be some 500 million global podcast, radio, and/or on-demand listeners.

Majors in Podcasting and Audio Storytelling at the Herbert School will learn to creatively employ the power of the human voice, of sound, of emotion, of melody, and of words to engage listeners in the art of storytelling, doing what our ancestors did when elders shared oral histories that were carefully crafted, then spoken, and delivered to an audience. Today, and with the advantage of an array new technology in recording, mixing, editing, mastering and distribution, we continue that storytelling tradition, understanding the power of sound, of words, and of diverse human voices.

With a Bachelor of Arts in Podcasting and Audio Storytelling, you’ll join a new class of audio professionals, creating moving non-fiction narrative storytelling, interview-focused podcasts, and sound-rich stories that take listeners into places they might not have imagined.
