This Advanced Certificate includes all requirements for Option II of the M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology as well as preparation for NYS certification as an elementary, middle or secondary teacher.
On average, students complete this program in one academic year.
There are two routes to obtaining the CAS: Bilingual Extension for Speech-Language Pathology:
1. Students currently matriculated in the M.A. Program in Speech-Language Pathology
a. Satisfy all requirements for Option II;
b. SPCH 262S must be completed in a bilingual placement;
c. complete SPCH 265 and SPCH 266 ; and
d. satisfy New York state language competency requirement in the chosen language.
2. Students not currently matriculated in the M.A. Program in Speech-Language Pathology
a. Must have an earned master’s degree in speech-language pathology;
b. must satisfy all requirements for New York state teacher certification in Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities;
c. demonstrate completion of practicum in a bilingual setting; or complete SPCH 262S in a bilingual setting;
d. complete SPCH 265 and SPCH 266 ; and
e. complete additional coursework as necessary under advisement of the graduate program director; and
f. satisfy New York state language competency requirement in the chosen language.
