The Advanced Certificate in Educational Technology is intended for certified K-12 teachers. The certificate provides advanced studies in the analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation of educational technologies. The program is based on the foundation of research and practice concerned with the development and use of educational technology for meaningful learning. Consistent with this mission, special emphasis is placed on designing innovative ways of using technology to help students relate new experiences and ideas to what they already know. Therefore, the purpose of the Certificate in Educational Technology is to meet the needs of educators aspiring to become instructional coordinators and leaders in educational technology. Consistent with that mission the program will:
- prepare students to use technology to transform teaching, learning and the curriculum.
- help students develop the expertise needed to identify, analyze, and solve learning problems with the use of educational technology in a variety of settings.
- help students develop the expertise to design educational technology tools that can be implemented in a classroom environment.
- help students gain hands-on experience with emerging technologies in state-of-the-art facilities.
The Advanced Certificate in Educational Technology conforms with the recommendation for teacher preparation by the International Society for Technology in Education and in particular with the National Educational Technology Standards. The program provides flexible course delivery methods to meet the diverse needs of students. Students can complete degree requirements all on-site, or all online, or using a hybrid learning approach. Each Distance Learning (DL) class is equivalent to its face-to-face version.
On average, students complete this program in one academic year.
