Bilingual Extension in Speech-Language Pathology, Adv. Cert.

This Advanced Certificate is for students who wish to have a more in-depth experience in working with bilingual and multicultural populations and who hold a valid initial/professional TSSLD certification. The advanced certificate in Bilingual Extension in Speech-Language Pathology includes all the requirements for Option II of the Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology  as well as the following requirements.

Program Requirements - Semester Hours: 15


In addition to completing all the requirements for Option II of the MA in Speech-Language Pathology , students must complete the following:

NOTE


NOTE: Candidates completing the Master of Arts in speech-language pathology  through Hofstra University may have satisfied some of these requirements through the MA program. Students do not need to repeat course work that has been taken at the graduate level to satisfy the requirements for Option II of the MA in speech-language pathology  with Teacher Certification (TSSLD).

Graduation Requirements


  1. Completion of all course work for the Advanced Certificate: Bilingual Extension in Speech-Language Pathology program with an overall minimum grade point average of 3.0.
  2. No grades below B in required clinical practicum courses.
  3. Completion of all required Educational Law Seminars.
  4. Proof of a valid initial/professional TSSLD certification.

Teacher Certification Requirements


Upon successful completion of degree requirements, students will be eligible to apply for the University’s recommendation for New York state certification. Contact the Office of Educational Support Services, 233 Hagedorn Hall, for information regarding any required Educational Law seminars* and other certification requirements. Forms for applying for certification can be found at the Office of Educational Support Services Web page under the certification tab.

*Please note, as of December 31, 2013, the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education now require a new six-hour seminar for Training in Harassment, Bullying and Discrimination Prevention and Intervention, required under the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA): http://www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert/news/newsitem05162013.html.

To be eligible for the certification extension in bilingual education students are required to have passing scores on the appropriate New York State Teacher Certification Examinations (NYSTCE). Please contact the Office of Educational Support Services for specific certification requirements.
