The Advanced Certificate in Rehabilitation Counseling is intended for rehabilitation practitioners or professionals in a related field (e.g., counseling, psychology, social work) who wish to take course and/or fieldwork to qualify for the national certification exam for Rehabilitation Counseling (CRC). To earn the advanced certificate, students will be required to complete a minimum of 21 semester hours with additional course work if needed upon advisement. Depending on the student’s goal, a program of study will be developed that positions him/her for eligibility to take the exam.
Hofstra University currently has registered master’s programs in Rehabilitation Counseling and Rehabilitation Counseling in Mental Health. These programs, however, are intended for students who have either no or minimal academic training in the field. In contrast, the Advanced Certificate in Rehabilitation Counseling will serve a need for those who already hold a master’s degree in a related field and need a few courses to meet the requirements set forth by CRCC (Commission on Certification in Rehabilitation Counseling).
On average, students complete this program in one and one-half academic years.
