The BA major in Writing Studies focuses the on way writing works to make meaning and to persuade, with emphasis on the following areas of study: Professional Writing, Composition and Rhetoric, and Digital Rhetoric. Students engage in primary undergraduate research, internships, and/or writing center experience.
The BA major in Writing Studies offers an excellent path to the working world and to advanced graduate and professional programs.

Program Requirements
The BA major in writing studies consists of a minimum of 30 semester hours in areas 1-4 below. A grade of C- or above is required for the course to count toward the major.
Students must complete all course work in area 1 (WSC 104 : Introduction to Writing Studies) and take and at least 3 credit hours from areas 2, 3, and 4.
WSC 001 and 002 may not count toward the writing studies major or minor.
Area 1: Introduction to the Field
Take all courses in area 1. The department advises that WSC 104 be taken as early as possible in the student’s major.
Area 2: Professional Writing
Take at least 3 credits from area 2.
