MFT 265 - Gender Issues in Marriage and Family Therapy Semester Hours: 3 Periodically
Using the perspectives of contemporary men’s/women’s studies and feminist scholarship, this course focuses on the constructed nature of gender roles, the effects of these constructions on people’s lives, and the possibilities for change and individual empowerment that a critical awareness and gender-informed therapy can create. Further, this course examines the socially constructed aspects of gender as a binary, the evidence supporting a more complex understanding of gender, and the impacts of these opposing understandings on the lived experience of humans and their relationships.
