NAP 312 - Professional Aspects and Role of the Nurse Anesthetist II: Socialization, Business Practices, and Political Advocacy

Semester Hours: 1
This course is the second of two socialization courses that will explore the advanced professional role of the nurse anesthetist through the lens of political advocacy, ethics, and professional socialization within the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA).  The focus of the course will be on providing foundational materials for specialized areas of advanced nursing practice in anesthesia as related to the AANA Standards of Practice. The student will develop the knowledge and skills of the CRNA to navigate business settings and explore issues related to the role of a clinician, business manager, consultant, entrepreneur, or public policy advocate. Exploration of basic economic theory, healthcare financing, and reimbursement will be addressed. The goal of this course will be to expose students to advocacy issues pertaining to nurse anesthesia practice at state and federal levels (e.g. scope of practice and other legislative and regulatory matters).
