NAP 313 - Nurse Anesthesia Residency III

Semester Hours: 3

This course is the third of seven (7) clinical residencies that will allow the nurse anesthesia student to develop into competent, safe, culturally sensitive, interprofessional team members capable of engaging in a full scope of practice as defined in the AANA’s Scope of Nurse Anesthesia Practice and Standards for Nurse Anesthesia Practice.  In this course, the graduate program will evaluate the transition of the registered nurse to a novice nurse anesthesia student in cardiovascular/thoracic and neurosurgical practice utilizing a developmental milestone framework. Students will have the opportunity to build upon their physical assessment skills, ultrasound-guided regional techniques, and utilize evidence-based diagnostic testing principles to optimize the surgical patient. The theoretical and clinical process whereby the advanced practice nurse utilizes comprehensive physical, psychosocial, and cultural assessment across the lifespan to gather specific data essential for constructing an anesthesia care plan will be demonstrated. A formative and summative evaluation will be performed by the student and their assigned academic advisor after the clinical residency. A course failure in NAP 310 will result in a failure in this clinical practicum course.
