NAP 333 - Nurse Anesthesia Residency V

Semester Hours: 4
This course is the fifth of seven (7) clinical residencies that will allow the nurse anesthesia student to develop into competent, safe, culturally sensitive, interprofessional team members capable of engaging in a full scope of practice as defined in the AANA’s Scope of Nurse Anesthesia Practice and Standards for Nurse Anesthesia Practice.  In this course, the graduate program will evaluate the transition of the registered nurse to an advanced nurse anesthesia student in specialty operative environments utilizing a developmental milestone framework. Clinical experiences will focus on anesthesia care of ASA I through IV patients across the lifespan undergoing elective and emergency surgical and diagnostic procedures. Utilizing evidence-based practice, students will develop, implement, and evaluate anesthesia care plans for all patient populations. Special populations in crisis such as hematology, oncology, palliative care, and neurology patients will be addressed. Students will develop team leadership skills in chronic pain and crisis resource management. A formative and summative evaluation will be performed by the student and their assigned academic advisor after the clinical residency. A course failure in NAP 333 will result in a failure to progress to NAP 343.
