CSPM 218 - Pharmacology I Semester Hours: 2 This two-credit course is focused on the pharmacological applications of drugs used in perfusion medicine. The student will learn general and specific concepts of medical pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, pharmacotherapeutics, and pharmacogenomics, emphasizing clinical therapeutics. Students will become familiar with the categorizations, mechanisms of action, interactions, adverse reactions, therapeutic indications, contraindications, and precautions for the pharmacological agents listed in the course outline. The course outline is designed to coincide with the disease states covered in co-requisite courses. Students will learn the basic principles of prescription writing and the laws governing this privilege in New York State. Emphasis is placed on case-based clinical therapeutics and patient education regarding drug administration, potential adverse effects, and drug interactions.
