RTVF 118 - Advanced Screenwriting I

Semester Hours: 3

Fall

This two-semester “capstone” workshop challenges you to develop and execute multiple drafts of a feature-length screenplay while exploring personal methods and best practices of a creative process. This pre-professional environment is intended for screenwriters at the end of their course of study and ready to apply the lessons of their previous coursework: formal and structural considerations of a film story, how to establish context for your work in film history, and the various techniques available for constructing audience desire and narrative surprise. You will develop your stories in notebooks, write long and short treatments, create a detailed scene outline, make image books, and complete the first act (about 30 pages) of your original feature-length idea. Upon completing the course, you may register for RTVF 119  to complete your full-length screenplay and execute subsequent rounds of revision.

Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes:
RTVF 128  and RTVF 129  or permission of the department. May not be taken on a Pass/D+/D/Fail basis.
