CT 282R - Facilitating Makerspace in the Elementary and Middle School Classrooms Semester Hours: 3 This course is designed to prepare the student to facilitate Makerspace Centers in the elementary school. The student will design and successfully conduct developmentally appropriate science and mathematics instruction based on the current elementary science guidelines from national (Next Generation Science Standards—NGSS), New York State Standards, and the Mathematics Core Curriculum as they become incorporated within the Makerspace paradigm. The makerspace/iSTEM curricula are examined with a view toward providing all students opportunities for becoming mathematically and science literate in a rapidly changing, culturally diverse, technological society. The course also stresses the design and implementation of instructional methodologies that actively engage the learner in elementary/middle grade STEM enrichment. In addition, this course explores ways that technology can be used to effectively engage learners and deepen content understanding.
