DPT 533 - Orthotics and Prosthetics


Semester Hours: 2
This course will discuss types, components, selection, fitting and application of orthotics and prosthetics for individuals with movement dysfunction or amputation. Management of patients with amputations and conditions requiring orthotics will be emphasized. An overview of upper extremity orthotics and prosthetics will be discussed. This course discusses the pathological gait of patients/clients with neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, and/or integumentary impairments and functional limitations using prosthetic and orthotic devices. This covers evaluation and re-evaluation of normal and abnormal gait with appropriate treatment intervention for amputees.    

Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes:
Prerequisites for this course include all preceding coursework in the curriculum. Any exceptions require approval from the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program Director.  May not be taken on a Pass/Fail basis.
