PHA 129 - Surgery

Semester Hours: 2
Fall
The study of general surgery as well as sub-specialties such as orthopedics, otolaryngology and urology are explored. Basic surgical techniques as well as the diagnosis of surgical conditions in the ernergency and outpatient settings are stressed. Outpatient management of orthopeic conditions such as sprains, fractures, and dislocations are discussed as well as the office or clinic presentation and care of problems related to the back, shoulder, knee, elbow, ears, nose and throat. This course includes a laboratory section in the preparation and application of bandages, splints, and casts and the use of diagnostic modalities as audiograms, tympanograms, direct and indirect nasopharyngoscopy.

Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes:
Open only to students enrolled in the professional phase of the Physician Assistant Studies Program. No liberal arts credit.
