PHA 165 - Surgery ClerkshipSemester Hours: 3 Fall, Spring
The student is assigned to the department of surgery, where, under
supervision, they engage in a wide variety of activities in each of the
different phases of surgical intervention: preoperative, operative and
postoperative care. The student is given the opportunity to manage
fluids and electrolytes as well as nutritional requirements of the
surgical patient. The student participates in the daily rounds, attends
conferences and is educated in management and treatment of infections
and wound care.
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: Open only to students enrolled in the professional phase of the Physician Assistant
Program. No liberal arts credit.
