LYST 214 - Language and Literacy in Early Childhood and ChildhoodSemester Hours: 3 This course investigates issues in language and literacy for children from birth to grade six. Readings and discussions of the language processes (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) are grounded in theoretical perspectives in the areas of psychosociolinguistics, social/cultural literacies, the transactional nature of literature, and critical literacy. Language development is studied in readings and field experiences with an emphasis on the role of language and culture in learning to read and write.
