SPED 216I - Assessment and Diagnosis of Young Children: An International Perspective

The assessment, diagnosis and program planning of young children with developmental delays and disabilities with an international community perspective are the basis for this course. In a multinational context, students explore constructs of delays and disability; the historical, ethical, legal and public policy foundations of early childhood special education; and the pathway to inclusive education. Students become familiar with the foundations of assessment in special education and the basic concepts of descriptive statistics and measurement of behavior as well as the use of a variety of functional and authentic performance-based assessment strategies.  Multicultural concerns and the role of parents in the assessment of young children with disabilities are emphasized.

Special Education: International Perspectives (non certification), MSEd  students only.
