This first-semester course introduces students to the process of evaluation and the occupational therapy assessment tools used in the process. Teaching and learning activities will provide students with foundational knowledge required to analyze and critique the interview process. Evaluation of occupational performance and the factors that influence the assessment process (e.g., culture or disability) will be described. Students will identify their personal resources for self-reflection of values, interpersonal communication, and the professional behaviors indicative of the therapeutic use of self. This course has a Level I fieldwork component. Observation and participation in selected aspects of the occupational therapy process are required.
