ECO 101 - Introduction to EconomicsSemester Hours: 3 Periodically
This course is an intensive and combined study of undergraduate micro- and macro-economics.
It assumes no prior knowledge of economics and starts with an introduction of
basic economic concepts. The first part of the course focuses on the way in which
prices and distribution are determined in a free market economy. Short and long-run
costs of firms, pricing, in competitive, monopolistic and oligopolistic markets
are among the issues discussed. The second part of the course then turns to the
economy as a whole, focusing on the Keynesian revolution and the role of government
in a free market economy. Banking system, central banking, money creation are
among the issues discussed in this part along with economic growth and problems
of international trade.
