SPED 312 - Contemporary Cultures and Special Education Semester Hours: 3 Periodically
This course is intended to provide students with an understanding of diversity. Students explore a variety of topics including culture, ethnicity, race, nationality, age, gender, sexual orientation, mental and physical characteristics, education, values, and socioeconomic status. The focus is to provide students a heightened awareness and appreciation of difference. Students will reflect on their own culture and how it may impact on their behavior as well as understanding the effects of culture and ethnicity in others. The relevance of issues of diversity in the implementation of behavior analytic services will be an area of focus.
