MPH 203 - Biostatistics I Semester Hours: 3 This course provides an overview of biostatistics theories and methods commonly used in public health sciences. Students will learn how to conduct descriptive and univariate analyses of data from public health and clinical studies and how to interpret the results from these analyses. The course also introduces the basic concepts of statistical inference, including hypothesis testing, p-values, and confidence intervals. Topics also include comparisons of means and proportions; the normal distribution; regression and correlation; confounding; concepts of study design, including randomization, sample size, and power considerations; linear regression; and an overview of some methods in survival analysis. Case studies, highlighting the application and misuse of statistical methods in current biomedical literature, will be examined.
