This interdisciplinary BS degree is designed for students who wish to concentrate their undergraduate studies in the natural sciences and continue post-graduate studies in medicine or other health-related professions. It provides these students with a solid background in basic biomedical sciences and allows for the pursuit of a minor if desired, as well as a large number of elective courses. Students are encouraged to choose electives or a minor in the humanities or social sciences to round out their preparation for a health profession.
This BS degree requires a minimum of 45 s.h. in a combination of biology and chemistry, plus additional semester hours in physics and mathematics, and a minimum of 3 s.h. of laboratory or clinical research. With the large number of elective credits built into the degree, students have ample opportunity to receive a more in-depth education in the humanities, social sciences, or languages. Grades lower than a C- in any of the required science courses do not count toward the total number of semester hours earned for this degree.
