Program Requirements
Students majoring in religion may elect to concentrate in a particular religious tradition through a program that includes specialized language work, in addition to courses focused on the selected religious tradition. Religion majors with an area concentration that includes language work must earn at least 36 hours in religion and language as follows:
- 6 semester hours from RELI 010 and RELI 150 ; and
- Completion of level 2 in the relevant language; and
- 24 semester hours focused on a particular religious tradition or cultural area, such as: Buddhism, Christianity (ancient and modern; Catholicism), Islam, Judaism, Sikhism; and
- At least 18 of the 36 semester hours must be 100-level courses;
- At least 21 of the 36 semester hours must be RELI courses (JWST courses may be included per advisement).
While internships in religion are not required, they are highly recommended. See department chairperson for details.
