Mathematics, Bachelor of Arts/Finance, Master of Science, Dual-degree


Students must complete a total of 145 semester hours: a minimum of 115 semester hours toward their undergraduate degree and 30 semester hours of graduate work toward the M.S. in Finance. A sample schedule for the combined degree is available from either the Mathematics Department or Zarb School of Business.

Students admitted to this dual-degree program will receive a B.A. in Mathematics upon completion of the following requirements:

  1. The complete B.A. requirements described in the Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences section of the Undergraduate Bulletin. In particular, successful completion of a total of 124 semester hours, including at least 115 semester hours of undergraduate course work and at most 9 semester hours of M.S. in Finance graduate course work.
  2. The specific major requirements described in the B.A. Major in Mathematics (with MATH 137 used as three of the 12 required advanced undergraduate s.h. numbered above 100 and MATH 138 used for the 138/146/172/173 requirement), as listed below.

MATH 71, 72, 73, 100, 114, 135A, 137, 138, 145, 171; 9 additional semester hours in advanced mathematics courses numbered above 100; PHYS 11A and 11B. ACCT 101 is strongly recommended.

Graduate Finance Requirements*:


Completion of one of the following concentrations:

(a) Concentration in Investment Analysis:

* No degree credit is given for Bloomberg certification, nor is tuition charged. Students should speak to the Finance Department chair for information about obtaining this certification.

** Residency Workshops are courses worth less than one credit that are taken in a student’s first or second semester.

***With permission of the Finance Department chair, M.S. in finance students may take ACCT 218  in lieu of FIN 206.
