This program seeks to train expert health information technology practitioners who can provide leadership in a broad range of projects in health information system design and implementation. The program places particular emphasis on the security and privacy aspects of health-related information storage and retrieval, communication, analysis, and dissemination. The goals of this program include the development of a thorough understanding of the health care information technology environment, and the attainment of advanced knowledge in communication, storage, and processing technologies that maintain the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of health information systems. Graduates of this program would function in a number of health information technology roles, including health information privacy and security specialist, health information management and exchange specialist, and health information technology programmer.

This is a one-year, part-time program open to holders of undergraduate degrees with a major or a minor in computer science, information technology, information systems, or a closely allied area. The program requires 18 s.h. of course work, is offered entirely online, and consists of a sequence of six courses, each of which runs for seven weeks.

An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution with a major or a minor in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely allied area.
