Academic Level of Undergraduate Student Body

Hofstra is a selective institution seeking to enroll those students who demonstrate the academic ability, intellectual curiosity, and motivation to succeed and contribute to the campus community. Hofstra enrolled almost 2,400 new students of whom 1,716 are first-time undergrads in 2006-2007.

Degrees

Bachelor’s degrees offered in about 140 undergraduate programs of study. Graduate degrees offered, including Ph.D., Ed.D., Psy.D., Au.D. and J.D., advanced certificates and professional diplomas in about 155 graduate programs of study.

Undergraduate Degrees

Bachelor of Arts in fields such as comparative literature, fine arts, communications, education, natural sciences, mathematics, computer science, engineering and social sciences, with courses offered to provide a pre-professional and professional background in law, medicine, health, or education; Bachelor of Fine Arts with specialization in theater arts; Bachelor of Business Administration with specializations such as accounting, finance, legal studies in business, international business, entrepreneurship, business computer information systems, management, and marketing; Bachelor of Engineering with specializations in engineering sciences; Bachelor of Science in scientific-technical programs and programs such as business economics, fine arts, mathematics, computers, music, communications, athletic training, exercise specialist, health education, and physician assistant; Bachelor of Science in Education with specializations such as fine arts, music, and physical education. Combined degree programs offered are the B.A./J.D. and the B.B.A./M.S. Concentrations and co-majors are offered under many of the degree programs.

Hofstra offers a January session and three summer sessions between May and August.

Varsity Athletics

18 varsity sports, 9 for men and 9 for women; Men’s sports include baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, golf, lacrosse, soccer, tennis and wrestling. Women’s sports include basketball, cross-country, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball. The football program competes at the NCAA Division I-AA level in the Atlantic 10 Football Conference. All other sports compete at the NCAA Division I level in the Colonial Athletic Association.
