MPH 231 - Integrative Learning Experience Semester Hours: 3 All MPH students are required to complete an Integrative Learning Experience (ILE). Hofstra’s MPH program offers students seven ILE options: 1) Quantitative Research project; 2) Qualitative Research project; 3) Grant proposal; 4) Program Plan; 5) Systematic Literature Review; 6) Program Evaluation; or, 7) Policy Brief. Each option provides students with the opportunity to develop expertise in a specific topic area, demonstrate research methods skills, and make a contribution to the field of public health. Students work with a minimum of two faculty on their ILE, a faculty advisor (drawn primarily from the MPH faculty) and a preceptor (typically a practitioner from the field who is an expert in the selected topic area). As part of the ILE process, students are required to attend monthly seminars; complete a 20-page paper (that includes a comprehensive literature review as well as specific sections appropriate to the ILE option selected); complete human subjects ethics training and an IRB proposal (if appropriate); conduct an oral presentation at the MPH Symposium; and complete a self-assessment and exit interview with the program director.
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: Students that have completed at least 33 s.h. (including MPH 200 , 202 , 203 , 204 , 205 , 206 , 221 , and 222 ) are eligible to register for this course.
