REHB 268 - Vocational and Career Development in Counseling Semester Hours: 3 Spring
The purpose of this course is to familiarize students with theories relevant to career development and their application to diverse client populations. Special consideration is given to career counseling with respect to disability and mental health, life stage, culture, gender, sexual orientation/gender identity, veterans, and legal status. Career theories will be applied through career development interventions, including assessment and evaluation, vocational planning, utilizing labor market information, accessing community resources, and determining accommodations – all prevocational steps prior to job placement. Techniques and interventions will be presented from a life career planning perspective, from transitioning youth through seniors, with an emphasis on application throughout all phases of the counseling process.
