MPH 282A: Experimental Design in Sports Science
This course is designed to provide graduate students with an overview of the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and apply research methodology in the field of sports science. The class will introduce students to the concepts and principles for conducting research and evaluating the research literature. The course will cover the nature and purpose of research; research ethics; types of research and experimental designs; issues of control and sampling; methods of analyzing and interpreting data; and the use of online professional search procedures. Throughout the semester, students will critically evaluate research based on various concepts taught during the course to further their ability to make evidence-based decisions about research outcomes. The students will gain an understanding of how to conduct research that advances the emerging body of literature in several areas of research in the field of sports science and ultimately apply their knowledge to complete a research proposal.
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: As individual subjects are selected, each is assigned a letter (A-Z) and added to the course number. Any course can be taken a number of times so long as there is a different letter designation each time it is taken. Specific titles and course descriptions for special topics courses are available in the online class schedule. May not be taken on a Pass/Fail basis.
