CSPM 202 - Perfusion Technology II


Semester Hours: 3
This course explores the technology, techniques, and challenges associated with cardiovascular perfusion and how the extracorporeal circuit is used in today’s healthcare setting. This course looks at the technology, techniques and strategies associated with the conduct of cardiopulmonary bypass. This includes hemodilution, hypothermia, anticoagulation, myocardial protection, the interaction of blood with a foreign surface and the pathophysiology associated with cardiopulmonary bypass. This course looks at the specific techniques and current applications of extracorporeal circulation, various adjunct procedures, support of the failing heart and/or the failing lungs, and future applications and techniques.
