NUR 306 - Health Finance, Health Policy & Economic Leadership in Complex Health Systems


Semester Hours: 3
This course will examine health finance, health policy, and healthcare economics through the lens of leadership theories and concepts. This course will explore the relationship of economic issues, health policy, and clinical practice. The impact of theories and principles on health care will be examined on both a macro and micro level and applied to the advanced practice role. Students will use economic concepts and tools to examine issues and solve problems/issues pertaining to health care and the delivery of health care services. This course will explore approaches to economic evaluations, and students will synthesize findings from economic evaluations to advocate for healthcare reform, health policy improvement and to ethically support their decisions on the allocation of health care resources. Evidence-based critique skills will be expanded to include critical appraisal of economic evaluation studies, and skills will be explored to conduct an economic systematic review. Relevant finance concepts will be explored to develop skills in assessing the practice/organizations’ financial condition, budgeting, and profit analysis.
