SED 217A - Student Teaching in World Language Semester Hours: 3
Fall, Spring
Full-time student teaching in cooperating schools with direction and supervision from University supervisors. Students have one placement for 35 days at the senior high school level (10-12). During the student teaching experience, prospective teachers gradually assume greater responsibility for organizing the teaching classes. Attendance at weekly seminars is required. These seminars are designed to help locate, analyze and solve immediate problems in student teaching experience and to address issues of inclusion and diversity in the classroom. Students’ professional electronic portfolios must be completed during these seminars and presented as a graduation requirement. Student teachers review standards, teaching methods, curricula, technology and assessment in their subject area, and reflect on their classroom experiences.
Pass/Fail grade only.
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: SED 213 or equivalent; SPED 264 ; LYST 213 ; ELED 225 ; and SED 267 . This course is only open to Teaching World Languages and English to Speakers of Other Languages, MSEd candidates. Corequisite: CT 268 . Admission by interview and application to the Office of Field Placement at least a sememster prior to student teaching
