SED 217 - Student Teaching Fall, Spring
Full-time student teaching in cooperating schools with direction and supervision
from University supervisors. Students have two placements during the semester:
one on the middle school/junior high school level (7-9) and one on the senior
high school level (10- 12). During the student teaching experience, prospective
teachers gradually assume greater responsibility for organizing the teaching classes.
Attendance at weekly seminars is required. These seminars are designed to help
locate, analyze and solve immediate problems in student teaching experience and
to address issues of inclusion and diversity in the classroom. Student teachers
review standards, teaching methods, curricula, technology and assessment in their
subject area, and reflect on their classroom experiences. In addition, special
State-mandated seminars address issues of child abuse and abduction, substance
abuse, violence prevention, and safety education.
Prerequisites & Notes SED 205, 264, 213; LYST 209, 215, or 217A; SPED 201 or 264; and special methods
course(s). Corequisite: SED 201. Application must be submitted to the Office of
Field Placement prior to October 1 for the spring semester and March 1 for the
fall semester. Pass/Fail grade only.
Credits: 6 s.h.
