FDED 231 - Childhood and Adolescence in Historical

Spring
Perspective Students explore aspects of childhood and adolescence drawn from a variety of cultures and historical eras. Attention is focused on the socialization of the young into acquiring the behaviors, norms, knowledge, and systems of belief traditionally held dear by the adult members of society. The crucial role of the family is underscored. Play, toys, and games are examined as preparation for societal participation. Where appropriate, the role of schooling and other educational institutions are examined, as well as educational thought. Museum visitations, cooperative team inquiry, and hands-on learning are required in addition to the usual methods of graduate study.
