CSC 256 - Advanced Operating Systems Design Review of resource management and control functions of operating systems. Process management, memory management, file systems, distributed and multiprocessor systems. Concurrent processes, scheduling, mutual exclusion, synchronization. The CSP language for specifying communication patterns in interactive systems. Deadlock prevention, avoidance, and detection. Memory management paged and segmented allocation. The memory hierarchy, caching, virtual memory, page replacement algorithms, and their analyses. Protection and security.
Prerequisites & Notes Course open to graduate students in computer science, others need permission from computer science graduate director.
