Mathematics (BS) and Business Administration (MBA), Dual-degree Program


Students must complete a minimum of 155 semester hours: a minimum 115 semester hours toward their undergraduate degree and a minimum of 40 semester hours of graduate work toward the M.B.A. A sample schedule for the combined degree is available from either the Mathematics Department or Zarb School of Business.

Students admitted to this dual-degree program will receive a B.S. in Mathematics upon completion of the following requirements:

  • The complete B.S. requirements described in the Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences section of the Undergraduate Bulletin: 55 semester hours in liberal arts courses other than mathematics. The specific major requirements for the B.S. Major in Mathematics as listed below:

MATH 71, 72, 73, 100, 114, 135A, 145, 171; 138* or 146 or 172 or 173; 12* additional semester hours in advanced mathematics courses numbered above 100; the remaining requirements for the chosen option (see below sample schedule for pure mathematics option and actuarial science option) for the B.S. in Mathematics; PHYS 11A and 11B. QM 122 is strongly recommended.

* MATH 137 is strongly recommended as three of the twelve s.h. of additional advanced undergraduate mathematics courses numbered above 100, and MATH 138 is strongly recommended for the 138/146/172/173 requirement for those students in this program who do take MATH 137. MATH 137 together with MATH 138 will satisfy the QM 1 prerequisite for QM 122.
