CSPM 220 - Medical Ethics of Cardiovascular Sciences and Perfusion Medicine


Semester Hours: 3
This course explores the contemporary legal, policy, and ethical issues cardiopulmonary professionals encounter in the continuously evolving health care system. Students will gain the knowledge and skills to make ethical choices within the context of the health law and medical decision-making frameworks. Ethical decision-making with particular reference to scholarship, social determinants of health, practice-related moral distress, implicit bias, and best practice issues are examined. Students will analyze ethical cases, legal, political, organizational, social, cultural, and financial factors that create ethical challenges in delivering care by engaging in interactive discussions and informative research. Students will explore contextual ethical issues in the past and current historical sentinel legal and clinical cases.
