GEOL 131 - Optical MineralogySemester Hours: 3 Periodically
Principles and use of the polarizing microscope in the analysis of mineral grains and rock thin-sections. Identification of these minerals is based on their optical and crystallographic properties determined from either oil immersion or permanent mount methods. (2 hours lecture, 3 hours laboratory.)
Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes: No liberal arts credit.
