LIT 071 - (LT) Russian Culture and West

Semester Hours: 3

Periodically

In this course, we focus on some of the best known Russian authors in the world – including Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Gogol, Turgenev, and Pushkin – exploring the different ways they treat moments of great passion and compassion, love and death, in the 19th and early 20th centuries (until 1917). Our emphasis in the course is primarily on short stories and carefully chosen excerpts from longer novels. Students taking this course need no prior literature, Russian language, or Russian history background.

Prerequisite(s)/Course Notes:
The course is open to all students regardless of level, and all materials will be read in English. (Formerly Russian Culture and Literature: Between East and West. )
