Aside from being essential for survival, food is a system of meanings that articulates cultural values, social hierarchies, and identities. This course analyzes how food is used in Latin American literary texts to present interpretations of culture, history, and politics. The authors studied include Laura Esquivel, Gabriel García Márquez, Gabriela Mistral, Pablo Neruda, and Octavio Paz. This course is taught in English.
