Interdisciplinary Studies with a American Civilization Focus

American Civilization is the study of the culture of the United States from such
interdisciplinary perspectives as history, political science, literature, economics,
philosophy, sociology and art history.
In addition to satisfying the general requirements for graduation from New College,
American Civilization students must design, with the adviser for this focus, a
program of 40 s.h. of studies, at least 20 s.h. of which are in advanced courses
or projects including a 4 s.h. Senior Project. This program design must be submitted
to the Area Coordinator for approval by the end of the sophomore year.

Guidelines
- At least 8 s.h. in Humanities
- At least 12 s.h. in at least two different Social Science disciplines
- At least 8 s.h. in advanced topics
- At least 8 s.h. in other courses which illustrate some aspect of American Civilization;
- 4 s.h. Senior Project as culmination of the student’s work in American Civilization.
