This badge surveys the field of forensic linguistics through case studies.

Students, many of whom are practitioners in the fields of law, intelligence, law enforcement, and threat assessment/management, will acquire a basic understanding of the science of linguistics and basic knowledge of techniques, theory, and approaches to cases of forensic linguistics.

Students will learn what kinds of investigations, evidence, responses, and legal arguments are appropriate for, and enhanced through, forensic linguistic techniques and acquire an overview of the different sub-specialties that one can draw upon to make and support one’s cases.

This badge is open to current, matriculated students at Hofstra and non-matriculated students, who will earn six graduate credits (3 credits per course for LING 219 and LING 220). Courses are online with an opportunity for occasional in-person offerings.
