GEOL 005 - (NS) Environmental Geology and Natural Hazards

Every Other Year
Considers the geological and anthropogenic processes that affect the formation and evolution of modern landscapes. Introduces techniques geologists use to analyze natural and environmental hazards such as removal of toxic contaminants, storage of nuclear wastes, floods, climate changes, hurricanes, landslides, earthquakes, coastal erosion!1md volcanic eruptions. Discusses the need for risk assessment and alternate land use management strategies. Small group research projects culminate in posters created by all students and presented orally in class. (2 hours lecture, 2 hours laboratory.)
