This course examines cultural interactions between representations, both visual and textual, of ‘the West’ and ‘the Middle East’ in the 20th century. Topics include evolving historical representations of violence and Islam in film, current attitudes towards Arab culture, and the role American popular culture plays in stereotypes of the Middle East.
